Why compare gas quotes?

High gas bills can be a real pain in the pocket – if your home is fitted with gas central heating, as well as a gas oven and hob, then the cost of keeping your household warm and well fed can quickly escalate. And it’s a problem that can be made even worse if your gas supplier has placed you on one of its less competitively priced tariffs.

You may not realise, but if you’ve never switched gas supplier, you’ll be on a standard variable rate tariff, and these price plans are among the most expensive around. Even if you have switched supplier in the past, if you’ve not done so in over a year then it’s likely your lower rate tariff has expired and you’ve been placed on an expensive standard variable rate.

The good news is, with GasPrices.co.uk, you can compare gas suppliers online and switch to a better deal in just a few minutes – enter your postcode in the box above, or give us a call on 0800 326 5530 to run a gas comparison and see how much you can save.

It’s not all about saving money though – while cutting the cost of your bills will probably be your top priority, it’s also worth considering the level of customer service on offer, opening hours, and how they handle billing enquiries, so always check online customer reviews before you sign up to a deal.

How to compare energy prices and switch supplier

If you’re on a standard variable tariff, you can switch to a better deal straight away, without incurring any penalty. If you’re part way through a fixed rate deal though, check your supplier doesn’t apply a penalty fee for terminating your contract early.

Even if they do, you’re free to switch, penalty-free, between 42 and 49 days before your plans scheduled end date.

Comparing gas prices with GasPrices.co.uk is as easy as 1-2-3:

How to cut the cost of your gas bills

When switching gas supplier, there are a couple of things you can do to cut prices even further, such as:

  • Switch to a fixed-rate deal – Suppliers often offer a cheaper rate to customers who are prepared to lock prices in for 12 months or more. This is also a great way to protect yourself against annual price hikes.
  • Pay by Direct Debit – Suppliers also often offer discounts to customers who pay a set monthly amount by Direct Debit. The estimated cost of your annual bill is usually spread into 12 equal payments, which is great for budgeting and making sure you never miss a payment.
  • Manage your account online – Managing your account online means suppliers don’t need to send out paper bills, and will often pass on a discounted rate to reflect this.
  • Take out a dual fuel tariff – You might find you can also get an added discount for switching both your gas and electricity accounts to the same provider. We can provide quotes for both gas only and dual fuel tariffs.

You can also cut costs by being more energy efficient, so consider blocking any draughts from windows and doors and not running the central heating as much – in fact, just dropping the heat by a degree or two can help cut the cost of your bills. If possible, it’s also worth installing double glazing and replacing your boiler if it’s over 15 years old.
